What I Loved

I loved this book, which I read quite a few years ago.
Sisr Hustvedt is of Norwegian descent, and is married to Paul Auster. I was Lucky enough to meet them last year, and I have to admit that I was rather star-struck!

Happy birthday.
Thanks so much for this book, Haugtussa! This looks really intriguing; look forward to reading it very soon.
Every story we tell about ourselves can only be told in the past tense. It winds backward from where we now stand, no longer the actors in the story but its spectators who have chosen to speak. The trail behind us is sometimes marked by stones like the ones Hansel first left behind him. Other times the path is gone, because the birds flew down and ate up all the crumbs at sunrise.
I read this book earlier this year - overall I thought this book's plot was fascinating. I found the first third of the book too intense and heavy-going (maybe the descriptions of the artworks just seemed too detailed and unnecessary, and I have to admit I did skim most parts!). But then a character dies, and the story became much more interesting and I couldn't put it down. So thank you, Haugtussa, for sending this to me to read!
This is now on its way to a dear BCer friend - hope this reaches you in time for Christmas!

A knock at the door this morning! We opened it but there was no one there except a package at the doorstep. What a surprise. I am thrilled to receive this and am looking forward to reading it. I've read through the journals and it holds a lot of elements that interest me .............. so excited! Thanks heaps! xx
