I really thought the writing was vivid and descriptive-- it isn't easy to write about aliens and the destruction of earth without using stories of weapons and blood.
Instead, Butler has the perspective that the human race could actually survive by interbreeding with aliens, even though we are intelligent and ambitious and may not want to all be equal.
