It has been a while since I've read this book, but I have fond memories of it. It describes the lives of three women in the UK in the early eighties. It's a period I remember well, and even though I was not in the UK, the Zeitgeist as I remember it has been captured well in this book.
It sometimes borders on 'chick-lit' in my opinion, but in general Drabble manages to keep it fairly interesting.
