A guide to English grammar and style reveals the underlying logic of the language with the help of examples organized according to specific problems.
I quite enjoyed this, but won't keep it as a reference, so think somebody else should get a laugh. Her examples are hilarious.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Left on the bookshelves upstairs.
I found this on the bookshelf in Coffee Link, I can't believe I didn't spot it before! Apparently, it was intended for me; SemioticGhost knows me too well :)
I also 'enjoyed' this, but then I know i'm an English geek as well! I think Patricia O'Connor pulled of quite a feat making grammar seem interesting and digestible. I was impressed how much 'good' grammar I know, I assume by some form of osmosis, rather than good teaching. However, it was good to see the definite rules in black-and-white and some grey areas explained. I also learnt a lot; such as the correct way to use that/which, the truth about 'danglers' and the split infinitive, and the suggested use of apostrophe with acronyms etc. I thought the list of cliches was a bit pointless, and the extra section texting (txting?), email etc. was a bit weak, but I guess we are all fighting a rear-guard (rearguard?) action against declining standards :( Thanks for sharing Esther, I know a few colleagues who might like this...
Given to my nearest neighbour in the office. Enjoy, journal and pass on :)
