Von Esther
Florida is tired of tourists and retired people. Reason enough for "las noches de diciembre" to give a sign to those responsible for the pollution of the everglade (a well known friend). One by one tourist certainly disappears - mostly through Pavlov's throat, a ravenous alligator and pat of the terrorist union with the bizarre journalist Skip Wiley as their head. Together with the Seminole Tommy Tigertal (he will turn up again in "Nature girl"), a former, washed-up Superbowl Champion Viceroy Wilson and a cuban guerrilla fighter Jesus Bernal (an explosion specialist who every now and then hits the wrong marks) he leaves Florida's tourist branch in a mess.

Both novels share the likeable detective Al Garcia who supports the brave protagonists immensely. Whereas in Tourist Season Brian Keyes who mutated form a journalist to a private detective takes over the roll of the strong an brave, the striptease dancer Erin Grant does in "Striptease". She has to fight against her ex-husband, who rips wheel chairs in hospitals and an ugly, kinky politician called Dilbeck. In "Tourist Season" again environment protection is the quintessence, whereas in "Striptease" politicians and their intrigues get into the spotlights.

Both "Tourist Season" and "Striptease" offer typical Hiaasen's kick, are bluntly humorous totally without being subtle. Both glorify their heroes (the good) and sacrifice their evils.

What I do miss in "Tourist Season" is the usually last cheaper "What happened to whom?" that "Striptease" of course has.

couldn't resist the book sale on Hemeraner Herbsttage... like I don't have a single book left in my shelves *sigh*
