Product Description
Fresh from Los Angeles, Mrs Pearl Collingwood and her daughter Rona arrive in the frenzied no-man's-land of Heathrow airport: from the nearby village of Bedmansworth, Edward Richardson jets in and out of it faster than his marriage can tolerate. Yet precisely where village and airport overlap, there exists a world bubbling with intrigues and assignations, with wit, pathos and excitement, that all readers of Leslie Thomas will recognize as his alone.

This was a good read. I liked the variation of characters, all set around Heathrow Airport, either in the actual airport itself or in the towns and villages surrounding it. I have a thing for airports, not totally sure why, but people coming and going, and the emotions that go with it, have always fascinated me and having had this book for over two decades without reading it, I could see why it appealed to me in the first place to buy it, and I'm glad I got around to reading it. It has dated since it was written but I could still relate to it all, being old enough to remember life before mobile phones, the internet and social media. My favourite character was probably Pearl from Los Angeles. Having spent many, many hours working on researching my family tree I could relate to her search for answers from her past and I'm glad she got them. My brother lives in the area that this book is set in, and the planes look huge coming in to land where he lives right on the flight path so I could picture it all very easily in my mind. I'm now hoping to find a copy of Tropic of Ruislip by the same author. Hope I like it as much as I liked this one.
