Fool that I am for books, I couldn't resist this old movie-tie in edition. I've never seen the movie, though I remember being attracted to it. The American idea of induced health by puritanical means is so preposterous. I'm especially looking forward to this satire of the raving nut cases of yore, who alas still hold sway in our ridiculous culture of Wellville or "wellness." Recently, I enjoyed M.F.K. Fisher's memoirs of her childhood, featuring her grandmother, a stolid Battle Creek dietary puritan. In revolt M.F.K. Fisher became an epicure and a great food writer. I guess that's something we owe these odd Yankee people.
