The Notebook

Have not read, but it's up for trade. I read The Rescue by Sparks and really didn't like it, so I'm skipping his other books too...
I just received this in the mail from a fellow BookXer. Going to get the mail is such an adventure these days! Thank you so much! I will take very good care of it.
A heart-wrenching account of love through a lifetime. While I felt that some of the language used to depict the relationship of the primary characters is trite and worn, the final emotional impact is eloquent. A quick, entertaining read.

Thanks again!!
Thanks again!!
I found this to be a wonderful love story... although I am used to a bit more physical passion in the romance books I normally read. This book was very moving and I would definatley reccommend it to anyone needing a pick-me-up or just enjoys a moving story. (Be prepared to cry!)

Sent on its way today to tantan in Australia. Enjoy!
Just received this in the mail today. I'm currently reading a BC ray book, and I have two rings to read after that, so this one will follow those. I'm going as fast as I can, but as usual all the rings and rays arrived at once! :-)
I must confess that I did not really enjoy this book at all. I do often enjoy a light read, but I just found this hard to get in to. I did not like the characters at all, and the language was over-the-top. It's one redeeming feature was that it was quick! :-) However, thanks to RaftQueen for letting me be on the bookring - I've heard so much about Nicholas Sparks, but had never read anything by him so I do appreciate the opportunity. It will be off to lauroloo29 as soon as I have an address.
This arrived today. I'm glad to see that I am the last person on the ray. THis book is going to the bottom of my ring/ray pile. :) Thank you!
I forgot to keep this at the bottom of the pile. :) I have read this before years ago. I wanted to read it again before I saw the movie. I sadly didn't remember liking the book when I first read it and it was much the same this go around. I became a bit bored. Although the love these 2 share is wonderful. I'm glad I read it again.
I will be sending this out as a bookray.

Got home from vacation to find this book in my mail. I will start reading right away. Looking forward to the read
What an utterly fantastic read. I couldn't put it down. This is a great love story. I think I went through a box of kleenexes. Although the writing is quite simplistic, Sparks really knows how to grab you. This story was a little "close to home" as my mom is in the early stages of Alzheimers. I don't know if I would get through the movie.
mailed today
received it today...i'llstart reading it as soon as possible
i'll make a review at the end
Thanks so much...
i'll make a review at the end
Thanks so much...
i've finished it already...but i forgot to make a review...so i'm making one now...
i liked the book...but i think that the descriptions of the disease and the old people that the charathers become to be...was a little extended...
the love part, that at the beginning of the book should have more moments spent together, more love, more kisses, more tenderness to show the reader how great their love was...
i liked the story,it was a good story, but something was missing
sorry about lauraloo about forgetting to make a review...as the female charather of the book...i think i will have alzeihmer in my old days, because i'm so "lost" :)

Warsaw/Poland - The book arrived with impecable timing as I will be heading off to the States in about 5 hours and was in need of a good plane book. :-D Thanks!
Warsaw/Poland - I, like minabomb, finished this about two weeks ago and forgot to journal it! Sorry about that. Anyway, I found it quite enjoyable and though I would DEFINITELY agree that some of the language and the descriptions were somewhat....uninspiring, I quite liked it. That said, I saw the movie first (I had no idea it was a book or I would have read it first, I swear :-D) and I must say...I liked it better. You got to see all the love, friendship, gorgeous scenery, and heart-break but without the descriptions that I found so aggravating in the book. Admittedly some of the reasoning behind my prefering the movie over the book could be that I'm 18 and the guy who played Noah was gorgeous. ;-P
Anyway, I sent the book off by priority mail to star69 today. Thanks for letting me be a part of the ring!

I really enjoyed this book it is a proper old fashioned romance which makes a nice change from all the chick-lit romances that are popular at the moment.

It was a nice story and a quick read. I found the alzeihmers bit spoilt the story. It would have been much better as a love story with much more detail of how they spent their time apart.
I will post the book on soon.

Well, I'm afraid I share tantan's opinion about this book.
I didn't enjoy this sirupy love story at all. The characters are all saints, the writing isn't so good, I found the love scene by the fire somewhat long...
As tantan said the redeeming feature is that it is short!
I hadn't seen the movie (didn't even know one had been made). I had heard of Nicholas Sparks and wanted to read something written by him, since the reviews were good.
This book has satisfied my curiosity! Thank you very much for sharing this book, lauraloo29, and for allowing me to make an opinion about it!
I'm really sorry for this rather harsh journal entry...Guess I'm just disappointed by the book.
I'll mail it to whitehorsy today or tomorrow.

I've received "The Notebook" today, thanks Brujula! It came with a beautiful bookmark with Australian birds and a postcard of the movie (from Zarylia). :-)
I see that I'm the last one on this ray... so I'll be letting two other books go first before reading this one... hope that's okay. Thanks Lauraloo29 for organising this ray and a big thank you to all the participants!!!
Anyway, I'll give an update as soon as I'm finished reading the book and then I'll let the book travel further... maybe as a ray-forward! :-)

Journal Entry 32 by whitehorsy from Hasselt, Limburg / Limbourg Belgium on Wednesday, August 10, 2005
I've just finished this book tonight on the train... we had a delay of 15 minutes but time just seemed to fly. I've read most of this book on my train rides the last couple of days and I guess that's the only thing that kept me from crying... would have been a bit embarrassing. ;-)
To come to the point... this is a wonderful love story told in a simple but beautiful way. I know not everyone liked it but I guess I just love romantic stories like this. :-) I don't think the Alzheimer part was too eleborate or boring... okay, maybe it would have been nicer to hear more about the time they spent together right after they were reunited... or to see them living happily ever after. I guess most of us want to see a 'happy end' without any pain or worries. But eventhough both characters are old and sick, the end (at least where the story ended) was still a happy one.
What really stays with me after reading this book is the thought: 'how wonderful it must be to find true love like that - a true soul mate for life'. Sigh. :-)
Thanks lauraloo29 for adding me to the ray... and thanks to all the other people who kept this book moving! I will put this book up for grabs at the forum tomorrow. I would like it to become a ray forward. I don't remember who's idea it was though... and no, I don't have alzheimer... yet!!! ;-)
Update August 11th: I just wanted to add a small quotation that I really liked (you can find it on page 176). It's Noah speaking and when you've read the book you'll know what he's referring to:
Dusk is an illusion, because the sun is either above the horizon or below it. And it means that day and night are linked in a way that few things are; there cannot be one without the other, yet they cannot exist at the same time. How would it feel, I remember wondering, to be always together, yet forever apart?

I already knew the movie that was made out of this book and loved it and I loved the book just as much. This is one of the two books I've read in my life that has made me cry, it's such a beautiful love story. And a very quick read, took me only 3 hours this evening to read the whole book.
I'll put a message on the forum to keep it going as a "Ray It Forward".
