This delightful memoir of childhood is quintessentially Australian. Well-loved and well-written, the story of a boy growing up on the fringes of the Cold War in suburban Brisbane.

This book was given to me by Skyring in the Staples Mill Road Amtrak train station in Richmond, Virginia, USA. I live in the southeast corner of Virginia, about 2 hours away from Richmond, and I was quite surprised and pleased to get a PM from Peter recently to announce his arrival in Washington, DC for an unexpected holiday (all the way from Australia). Richmond is roughly halfway between our two locations, so he took the train down and I drove in to meet him. It's the capital city of Virginia and choc-a-block with Civil War era and earlier history, so we had plenty to look at in the few hours we had together. Finally being able to meet one of my best BookCrossing buddies is definitely a highlight of my membership, and it would only have been better if I'd been able to meet his wife as well. Maybe when my husband and I finally earn enough frequent flyer points to make it to Australia (in another ten years or so, probably), we'll get to Canberra for a reunion. :-)

I'll repeat this journal entry in the other two books Skyring gave me so that their future readers will all know this story of BookCrossing serendipity.

Cheers, Pete!! I ate the entire packet of Tim Tams on the drive home!

Gave this book to someone at the Norfolk, Virginia meetup last night. The other two books that Skyring left with me in Richmond were released at my OBCZ in Fairgrounds Coffee Shop. Fitting, given Peter's history there. :-)

"Caught" this book last night at Panera Bread Shop in Ghent, Norfolk VA during our monthly MeetUp meeting, passed along by Sparky-Redhead. Haven't had a chance to read it yet, but wanted to register the "capture" ASAP...more to come!

An entertaining romp through childhood, but not so much my "cup of tea."

Am re-releasing it tonight (3/8) into our Meet-up group in hopes of furthering it's travels.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

RELEASE NOTES:

I goofed in my previous entry. Here's the deal ... found this great book at Fairgrounds in Norfolk, VA and left it at the Charlotte airport during a layover to Vegas. It was actually "caught" while I was still there. Hopefully, the new [temporary] "owner" will create a journal entry for it.
