A well-told collection of short stories that revolve around the community of Monterey Bay and its infamous fish canneries. Steinbeck is one of my all-time favourite authors, doing what so few twentieth-century writers do well, telling mens' stories and giving them a voice they would otherwise not find for themselves.

The Pastures of Heaven (1932)
The Red Pony (1933)
To a God Unknown (1933)

Havent read this for 30 years. Even better than I remember it, my favourite Steinbeck. The descriptions pull you in to the lives in Cannery Row.
