Thank you so much for sharing this, Soffitta. I loved this book! It´s great when you come across a rare gem like this.
The kind of book that when you're reading it on the bus, you don't want to arrive at your stop, because you don't want to close the book.. the story feels so real and you want to know what happens next. Great reading.

And thought provoking, too. We think of geisha as something like prostitutes, but it's not like that. And it's sad that the only "professional" choice for the women of that place and time, was to become a geisha, which is something along the lines of ..well, something between a call-girl and a mistress.
But then you think, is that life worse than what is offered today to women, struggling to find the time and energy to be a successful careerwoman+ a wife+ a mother+ a friend+ a daughter+ a housewife???
