Going into a book box. I am not much of a sci-fi fan, but hubby got his hands on a big ol' box of sci-fi, so I am creating a book box and putting a lot of those books in it!

Released on Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at Kayters' Sci-Fi/Fantasy Book Box #1 in KAYTERS, postal release USA.

I actually liked it, in a way. It is a lot like "The Giver" by Lois Lowry, but for a bit older, more mature readers. Worthwhile reading!..

Release planned for Tuesday, July 01, 2003 at Kayters' Sci-Fi/Fantasy Book Box #1 in KAYTERS, postal release USA.

Back into the bookbox it goes...

What an interesting BCID.

I took this out of the Sci-fi & Fantasy bookbox, and it's now safe and cozy on Mount TBR!

I agree that this book reminded me a good deal of The Giver. The naivety of the main character was frustrating at times, and I had a hard time connecting with both Daiya and Reiho. It was however a worthwhile read, and I'll admit I had a hard time putting it down!

Finished the book tonight.

Did I like this book? Yes. No. Maybe. Parts of it were annoying. I do not like hard SF and don't want really detailed technical explanations, but those provided in this book were somewhat dissatisfying at times. (Yes, they had to rest sometimes, but the people on Earth seemed to have way too easy of a time using their mind powers)

Did I like the characters? Mostly. Why only mostly? Nothing I can really put my finger on.

Did I like the ending? Not quite satisfying enough. Yes, it left hope (don't want to give any spoilers), but it also left a lot of questions. Questions that I would have liked to see answered.

The book was, however, a very inventive story. I did enjoy that aspect of it very much.

I received this in the mail last week and thought I journaled it at the time - either that, or my message didn't go through. Oops! I just started reading it today, and will journal again as soon as I am done with my thoughts on the book!

It took me awhile to get in to this book, but I didn't give up and noticed about half-way through that I really cared about the characters and wanted to know what happened to them. At the beginning it was hard to understand what was going on because they use "Mindspeak" to talk to one another and the punctuation takes a little while to get used to.

The book left me with a lot to think about, and it covers a lot of interesting topics. Like others have said here, I wished that there would have been more to the ending - it's almost like it is waiting for a sequel - but I was still satisfied with how it wrapped everything up.
