I finished the book and am now pondering whether or not to send this one a out as a bookray. It's a fun and different novel, mostly of interest to someone familiar with contemporary Israeli culture.

Here's my full review on LibraryThing.

About the author:
Gilad Elbom was born in Israel in 1968. After studying English and Arabic at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, he worked as an assistant nurse in a mental hospital, then moved to Los Angeles to attend the graduate writing program at Otis College of Art and Design.

Here are the opening lines of this book:
"I don't know why I'm writing this book in a foreign language when I have at my disposal such a beautiful mother tongue. It's not a perfect tongue, I know. It's been dead for the past two thousand years, and it goes from right to left, and we constantly have to come up with new words for simple things like oranges and submachine guns and encryption software. But it's...."

Here we go.....

Begin International Bookray - 6/23/09:
SqueakyChu (Maryland) done
UnwrittenLibra (Maryland) done
thebookmistress (Canada)
End International Bookray - 06/13/10:

This bookray travelled for almost one year and had 3 stops in two different countries.

The original copy of this book was lost and later found by thebookmistress. That copy was taken out of circulation so as not to cause confusion (per my request) because a new copy of the same book was purchased and circulated by thebookmistress. Everyone who originally requested to be on this bookray is still on it.

This book arrived while I was in Ecuador for a month and my parents sent it up to New York City so I could read it backstage during my show. Which I did. And it was pretty good, if not a bit self-serving and auteuristic.

The funniest thing is...I just found out I'm moving to Jerusalem in August. So quite an appropriate read.

Off to thebookmistress in Canada when I get a chance!

I thought the book was a touch self-indulgent, but still funny and creative. I wasn't quite sure what the point of it was, in the end, but it was an enjoyable enough ride.

The original copy is somewhere in the many boxes of books packed for our move, so I have bought and registered a replacement copy here.

I am mailing it to mrbaggins1 today.

When this original copy gets unpacked, I will also let it travel the world.
