Picked up at the Meetup. I've never read anything by this author, and this book is sort of famous, so I thought I'd give it a try. Unlike Tess of the D'Urvervilles I was never forced to read this one at school, and so I am not forced to hate it. I'll let you know. :)
Well, it was a short read, and an interesting one. The language is rich, the signs of the times (racism, excess) dismal, the characters ugly; and it just goes to show, money does not buy happiness. The story seemed sort of...pointless, other than perhaps as a morality tale and an illustration of shallowness.
So, now I can say I've read my first book by this author, and another one on those supposed "must read" lists, and I've released it. Release notes to follow. It will be another one in my desperate attempt to catch up on the Raven's Quest releases I need to do.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Release #238 in Raven's Quest
released in honor of state historic landmark #344, Arroyo de Cantua, which I visited somewhere around the 12th of February 2009. It's near Coalinga.
I left the book inside one of the news stands for motel coupons. While you're there, check out the two historical markers: One in honor of Mr. Miles himself, and a Blue Star Highway.
