Chick lit meets Mystery?

Katie has an excellent job, a wonderful husband and a cool job working for the CIA (though not in the Spy department). One day, she is fired for unknown reasons.

Flash forward ten years or so: Still wonderful husband, ten year old son about to be shuttled off to fat camp for summer (this was my first red flag) and a phone call from a former co-worker who claims she can now reveal why Katie was fired.. in exchange for her aid on a matter of national importance.

At first I thought this book would be a little whimsical mixed with a female version of the TV show Burn Notice. Not.even.close. From word one, Katie is overrationalizing every choice she makes, overmothering her fat son Nicky (red flag number two for me) and generally acting like a chick who needs a good slap from the Hand of Reality.

I could not bear to read past page twenty of this silly book. In fact, I don't know how I made it that far.

First of all, trekwoman's review of this book (above) had me laughing out loud! And it's accurate and hilarious

FROM BACK COVER: Katie Schottland seems to have the perfect life - a great husband, a winning ten-year-old son, and a dream job as a writer for the long-running TV series "Spy Guys." But writing about the espionage business isn't nearly as satisfying as working in it Fifteen years earlier, Katie was fired from her job at the CIA No one would tell her why Was she set up? Or did she make some terrible mistake that cost lives? When Katie gets a surprise call from a former Agency colleague, Lisa Golding, who promises to reveal the truth about the firing, if Katie will help her, Katie agrees to a conversation But Lisa vanishes...

I received this book in the mail from whiskeyjane of New Mexico. Thank you, Jane, for the book, the postcards and stickers.

This book was left in the Little Free Library. It was released for the Never Judge A Book by its Cover release challenge. (The author's name has double letters in it.)

NOTE: I tried reading this book but the style of writing was not easy to comprehend. It was hard to understand what was happening. The conversations didn't make much sense to me.
