The author wrote this book during the 1790s when Ireland was in crisis. This is a book about the decline of an Anglo-Irish family.

This book arrived in the post today, that was quick. Thank you tabby-cat-owner, your package was so neatly wrapped i didn't want to open it but i tried to do it delicately. :)

At last, a smaller book to read, i keep picking up 1001 books over 400 pages at my local OBCZ.

I'm currently reading "Memoirs of a Geisha" (53% of the way through). I'll finish reading that book before i start this one.

Update (7th Aug): Started reading.

The best part of the book was the list of events of the authors life. The story didn't really wow me in any way. I did like reading the background to the story but would have preferred it to be in the form of the authors life events. At least it was a short book and i learned some new phrases that the Irish used or still use.

Thanks for sending, nice to see a couple of slim 1001 books for a change ;)

Not really bad, but for a wee book it took me a while to read. This has a lot to do with the style it is written in, a narrative of an Irish manservant who hardly ever seems to breathe and the many endnotes, a lot of which I found redundant. There were interesting glimpses into the fall of an Anglo-Irish family, but a bit dry for me.

Back to the library.
