Xenophon's "Anabasis" is a famous text. Xenophon took part to a military expedition trying to help a prince - Cyrus "the Younger" - to overthrow the King of Kings, the "Great King" as nicknamed by the Greeks, but the Greek army has been betrayed. Now the surviving soldiers are trapped in a country as enemies attack from all sides. Xenophon MUST guide the retreating Greeks. But can he lead them to the great sea that will take them home ?
In Greek, "The Sea, the Sea" is "Thalassa ! Thalassa !"
"Anabasis" in Greek, "the climbing" or the action to sail away. Ana is a prefix, "upwards", as in Italian "in alto mare", far off shore. Prefix "ana" can as well have the meaning of "upstream".
Xenophon had no anti-Persian feelings. He wrote "Cyropedia", a book about Cyrus the Great's childhood and described the Persian way of bringing up a prince as an ideal way of parenting. Notice that the ending -pedia as Wiki- or something-pedia comes from ancient Greek language, "education".
Other Greek old friends: cyber-, from "kybernitis", pilot of a boat (since Homer's "Odyssey"), or the child-size bicycle seats HAMAX (tm), "hamax" as "cart" or "vehicle" in Greek. Mega- and giga- and tera- prefixes, mega=great or big (as "maharajah", great king), giga=giant (gigantopithecus, the dreamt "scientific" name of the unreachable yeti), tera=monster, megawatt, gigawatt, terajoules...

Around the World Bookcrossing Challenge 2008.

Suiza/Switzerland.

Welcome to bookcrossing ! BC is free: read + release books, so other people have the opportunity to catch the books + to read them + to release them and so on... Some books DO travel a lot (even more than this one).
Some bookcrossers in your area, Jujuy (San Salvador de Jujuy) and some municipalities in Jujuy provincia (do you say province ? sorry if not the case, "region" maybe ?) too.
I take part to Around the World Challenge. Why did I choose YOU ? That's a short story: I work at a small daily in my country, Switzerland, and one of my co-workers, a young woman, told me she already traveled to Argentina and she told me about Jujuy area; and about Purcamarca, so the place of virgin land in Aymara, right ? I saw beautiful images on www of Mountain of Seven Colors, Cerro de los Siete Colores, such a name of place sounds like a tale. Or like a legend.
I don't know who will pick up this book. It's short, quickly read, light to carry everywhere.
