Seen the movie, haven't read the book. Will do so soon, however, as this will be the last book in my 1001 Book Bookbag!

Really enjoy this, my first H. G. Wells. It's a far far better telling of the story than the recent Tom Cruise movie, with a lot more scientific and psychological discussion (rather than just the big bangs). What's more, I am in *awe* that Wells wrote this over 100 years ago - well before man was even flying, let alone going into space.

Another aspect that I really loved about this books is its location. I lived in south west london for four years so I knew many of the places where the action took place. I kinda knew that Wells has based 'WotW' in Woking - I'd seen pictures on the internet for some reason, but it never really clicked that it was *Woking* (a place I never actually visited, but changed trains at many a time!) until I read the book. It made the book a lot more real to have the tripods tramping around on ground that I know and love (even if it was 100+ years ago!!).

This books is now reserved for my 1001 Book Bookbag, which can now be started because I've finished this book! Hooray! ;-)

I've been wanting to read this book for a long time, since I've heard so much about it and its legendary status in sci-fi. I really enjoyed the story, more than I expected since I am not usually a fan of the genre. Amazing that H.G.Wells even came up with this for the time it was written.
Thanks KLL for putting this in the 1001 bookbag!
