Fight Club

"An undground classic since its first publication in 1996, FIGHT CLUB is now recognized as one of the most original and provocative novels published in this decade. Chuck Palahniuk's darkly funny first novel tells the story of a god-forsaken young man who discovers that his rage at living in a world filled with failure and lies cannot be pacified by an empty consumer culture. Relief for him and his disenfranchised peers comes in the form of secret after-hours boxing matches held in the basements of bars. FIGHT CLUB is the brainchild of Tyler Durden, who thinks he has found a way for himself and his friends to live beyond their confining and stultifying lives. But in Tyler's world there are no rules, no limits, no brakes."

an extra little pressie for RockDg9!

Aww ... thanks so much for the little extra surprise cafekat!
Wow! And I thought I knew what Fight Club was all about! This is a great book - with so many twists, that I didn't see coming. I love the anarchy of the whole thing.
Will have to go see the movie now - I was imagining scenes with Brad Pitt through the whole book.
It's a very clever novel, without being pretentious at all and still being a really great story. And I won't look at soap in the same way again!

Onto the increasingly unstable Mount TBR with this one!

Finally moved this one from Mt To-be-read to read!
Funnily enough I wasn't as 'grabbed' by this one as I'd hoped I'd be... I suspect the power of the 'Fight Club' movie has lessened the impact of this book for me. Still it was great to be reminded of the bizarre nature of this novel.. and I enjoyed taking the ride to 'Fight Club' again! I'll make sure this one gets passed along to someone who might enjoy it too!
