This book replaces the other one, stalled by a bookcrosser...
McEwan is really quite a fascinating writer. These are nearly 300 very tightly packed pages of a saturday in a sucessful man's life. Of course, a lot of things (small and others) happen within that day. But it is also full of thoughts remembrances and other associations. At times it might look a little bit tenous. But there is also quite an interesting view in medical neurosurgery, old age and brain "loss", as well as political insights in the islamic/western problem. Probably not the most easy reading, but an author that has to be read...

The book made it here safe and sound! I have a few rings ahead of it, but will keep you informed if it starts taking me a while to read. The postcard is lovely, did you make the bowl? (is it really even a bowl?) Whatever it is, it's beautiful.

What a book. Not something you can breeze through, but a dense, thought-provoking read. I especially like experiencing another country's point of view toward America and the 9/11 attacks. Thanks book-man-8 for the opportunity to read this. I will be mailing it ASAP to rootmartin.

Just received this in the mail today. Thanks, book-man-8, for starting up this bookray and to buocl for sending this along. I'm really looking forward to reading it. I have two bookring books ahead of this but should start it within two weeks or so.

Thanks so much, book-man-8, for starting this bookray. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I'm sorry that I kept it a little over a month. I finished it a few days ago but I ended up at the hospital in labor with my fourth child before I could mail it on. So, this was the last book that I read as a mother of three children!

Enough biographical information......I didn't really know what to expect when I started reading this book. It was one that had caught my eye at bookstores many times so I was delighted to have the opportunity to read it. And I found it quite stimulating. The way the author conveyed the complexity of thought processes that we all have on a daily basis was impressive.

It is all wrapped up and I'm putting it in the mail to valerief today. Happy traveling!

Just going through my unopened mail from the past few months when real life has cut into my reading time.

Am hoping to finish this in about a month and a half...

Thanks for sending!

Just realized that my journal entry comments got lost.

this was an eerie story that seemed to fit into the basic theme underlying all of Ian Mcewan's books. I remember being in Berlin on this day and experiencing the protests and the post-9/11 pre-war anxiety. It's hard for me to tell how Mcewan feels about the Iraq conflict based on Perowne's ambivalence. I also found it weird that only Perowne was referred to mostly by his last name. his premonitions on the "war on terror" hitting home sadly came true, around the time the book was published :(

This book was sent off to heartsong2. Happy reading!
