Hi. Welcome to my Horsey bookbox. I really hope you like the books you receive and can't wait to read what I've got back.

I'm not particularly worried about how may books you take out and put back in. In fact, I have so many books that I would be more than happy to receive less than I sent out! Far too many TBR's for my own good! So, feel free to take out a couple more than you put it, but please remember to leave a good selection for the next person.

As this is International, I understand that it will cost a bit between countries. Feel free to send it the cheapest way you can, even if it is also the slowest - everyone will understand.

As we are nearing Easter as this starts, I've put in some goodies for you all to share too. Hope you like them!

Finally, the order of participants.

rhonder (canada)
cheli-garza (USA)
tenneh (USA)
erishkigal (USA)
back to me in UK!

I'll add people to the bottom of the list if anyone else wants to join, so please double check before sending it on.

I think that's all. I won't list the books I've started it with, but feel free to post what you've put in and take out. Remember, it can be anything you like, as long as it has a horsey theme. I will tell you that it's starting with veteriary manuals, biographies, travel journals, mystery fiction, short stories, general fiction and some children's fiction.

Have fun and happy horsey bookcrossing!

Wow received already! I thought it would take longer to get here but I am thrilled! There are lots of books to look through & choose from! I've already determined however that my biggest problem is that most of the horse books I have are ones I don't wish to part with but I will find some!

I'll pm the next person for their address and will journal when I send the box on.

Thanks so much Dark-draco!

Journal Entry 4 by Rhonder from St Paul, Alberta Canada on Wednesday, April 5, 2006
What a selection!

I'm taking out:
Dark Horse by Tami Hoag (it was on my wishlist!)
Dick Francis Omnibus (The Edge & Comeback)
Champion's Story

I'm putting in:
The Oberserver's Book of Horses and Ponies
Comeback by Dick Francis (I hadn't read this yet but get both it and another one in Omnibus)
Training Explained
Black Beauty

I also got into a share of the goodies and have added to the mix! And I added another surprise - it's horse related but not a book and I hope someone along the way will like it!

Mailed to cheli-garza April 5th. Tracking #CX 109 480 797 CA

Thanks again Dark-draco, I'm glad you put this together and I'm glad I got to participate! I hope everyone finds something they like!

Have we had the box for a whole month already?! PMing tenneh for address so this box can start making trails in that direction.

Journal Entry 7 by cheli-garza from Dallas, Texas USA on Saturday, May 20, 2006
Received tenneh's address, so this is going to be mailed today. Okay, I found the Black Beauty cartoon. :) It was in the living room under some books! At work I just moved into a new position in a different department so things have been really hectic. We didn't even get a chance to see it. That's okay though, because I've never read the book. It's always better to read the book before watching the movie, don'tcha think?

Went in box:
A Cup for Janet
Sea Star
Gib Rides Home
Pony Pals: The Baby Pony
The Black Stallion Returns
Black Beauty cartoon

Took out:
The Horse: Physiology
Training Explained
All Because of Polly
For Love of a Horse
Midnight Dancer (I can't find this anywhere & don't think we journalled it. Can the person that included this in the box please PM me the bcid so that I can journal it?)

Heading on to erishkigal

Journal Entry 10 by wingerishkigalwing from Salt Lake City, Utah USA on Tuesday, June 13, 2006
just arrived! And my first choice is made already--Boxer and Beauty: A Tale of Two Cart-horses--even tho my youngest is my 18 year old grandaughter--lol
But I'm a sucker for draft horses. I was going to say Clydesdales (cover pic) aren't my fave tho... then realized of my three favorite mares Annie was Clydesedale (called her my 'dainty' Clyds), and Vea was a Clyds/Shire cross. The third was Moosie May, a tiny quarterhorse who was my awesome range horse at the Flying V7! All are now gamboling in those Elysian fields...

Anyway, despite the above--generally speaking, I like Belgians better--lol--I adore them all!!

Journal Entry 11 by wingerishkigalwing from Salt Lake City, Utah USA on Tuesday, July 4, 2006
my other 'automatic don't-even-have-to-think-about-it' choices are

White Horses Over France: From the Camargue to Cornwall
and
Tickner's Ponies

I'm also definately keeping The Man Who Listens to Horses--I love it, have a hard-back-- this copy will be released for the Well-Travelled Book Challenge.

I had decided to keep all of dark-dracos remaining books, and had dug up enough replacements, even pm'd for her addy.....and another person joined. So now I have to start deciding again what to keep, what to send on to her/him. LOL I hate decisions!

So when I've made my mind up, I'll edit this to include what else I'm keeping. But I may not list what I've sent on....all the more fun to open :)

next choice: Other People's Ponies --also to be sent on for the Well-Travelled

Journal Entry 12 by wingerishkigalwing from Salt Lake City, Utah USA on Thursday, July 20, 2006
Ok, this is packed up and finally on it's way today. But not to dark-draco. While I was awaiting her address, Greyflank joined, so that is where it's heading to next. And with a new participant, I no longer felt right about taking out all of d-ds books, so then I had to actually decidewhich to keep and which to take.

So, in addition to those already mentioned, I took out

Marion Mould's Book of Horses (which I think my friend June will like!)
The Horses of Petrock
Horse and Pony Stories (were there 3 originally d-d? there may be another
one still about)
The Observer's Book of Horses and Ponies
one of the saddle clubs books-also sent to a young BC'r
The Horse Whisperer (I actually hated the movie--this one will probably stay on the tbr for a while till I get around to seeing if I have the same issues with it.)

I think that's it. If I missed something, I'll edit.

I put in :

4 Memoirs/Biographies
3 Novels
1 Non-fiction
2 Children's novels (one is a Black Stallion)to replace those I sent on
1 non-book (well, I bought an extra, not realizing how late in the year before the box would be here-lol)

Thanks for starting this box, dark-draco!

Journal Entry 13 by wingerishkigalwing from Salt Lake City, Utah USA on Wednesday, August 16, 2006
four of the books I put in the box were journalled (Aug 4th) as staying in new Jersey.

2 Biography--Seabiscuit
Funny Cide

2 Fiction--Decider
Field of Thirteen

Journal Entry 14 by wingdark-dracowing from Ledbury, Herefordshire United Kingdom on Saturday, October 28, 2006
Hey, hey - my four hooved books have come back home - thanks for the amazing selection of books. Lots that we don't get on this side of the pond! I was always a big fan of the Saddle Club books, but I don't think the Pine Hollow sequels were ever published here - a great trip down memory lane to revisit old friends. The Misty books I've always wanted to read - now I have two and the lovely Seabiscuit book will replace the rather tired copy I already have. I will slowly journal everything I've caught over the next week or so. Thanks a lot - I hope you enjoyed the books that you received and one day I might be tempted to organise this again. Until then, happy neighs and great reading!

I'm missing this book box already!! So I've started a HOOVES AROUND THE WORLD relay on www.bookrelay.com

This is for fiction and non-fiction about horses, so if you fancy swapping all those lovely books you've just received, then gallop on over there and check it out.
