FL 'In the fall of 1995, after resigning from my last academic post, I decided to indulge myself and fulfill a dream.'

Although I enjoyed reading about life in Tehran from Azar Nafisi it was a difficult read. The story leapt about too much. This book took me far longer to read than most because of this.

I can't believe I have had this book since last August.... Sorry it's taken me so long to get round to it....

I've literally just finished it and I really enjoyed it! I agree with the previous comments in that the book jumps around and certainly isn't the easiest of reads. I also felt that the back cover was slightly misleading. Reading Lolita in Tehran is described as the tale of a book club reading elicit, forbidden books. I fact much of the book isn't about the book club specifically but about Nafisi's time lecturing at the university, about her other friends and about the political situation in Iran.

I definitely found the first section which focused more on the book group, specifically on Lolita, a book I loved myself, the easiest and most enjoyable part. The sections on authors I haven't read wre harder for me. This however, has certainly left me with a desire to read more Nabokov in addition to Fiztgerald and James, authors discussed in depth.

Overal I recommened this book, it is an insightful account into the political situation in Iran, both in the past and in the way things remain today. It is also an account of a group of people who share a passionate love of books, something I can certianly associate with.
