Breakfast at Tiffany's

Got in a bargain box set from my book man, tbr
I was under the impression that this book contained only the breakfast at Tiffanys story but infact it had a few short stories tucked away at the back aswell. They were all very enjoyable and the last one was my favourite even though it was very sad and nearly made me cry. Plan to take to the next meet up. Enjoy!!!

I've never seen the film, so I'm looking forward to reading this and finding out what all the fuss is about.

I didn't really enjoy Breakfast at Tiffany's, but I liked the short stories at the end. My favourite was A Christmas Memory, but House of Flowers was good too.
Reserved for droogie who ended up with this after a fun game of bookswapping.
Posted to droogie yesterday afternoon.
Thank you, another nice bookcrossing parcel in the post this morning.
A lovely short story that I really enjoyed reading. The other stories in the book were really good too, I might offer this as a ray as it is a quick read and should appeal to people who've seen the film.
This is about to go out as a Ray. The order is as follows

Inver (UK, post anywhere)
MyaStone (NY, post anywhere)
SomethingSimple (Portugal, Europe)

Sorry I haven't journalled this sooner, but have been on holiday. Thanks Tregossip for noting that I was away and letting the 'list' on here know the hold up. It will be a few weeks before I get to this one I think as have two others before this to read, but will get to it ASAP.
Thanks for posting it on.
Started reading (10/8/06)

Finished this book quicker than I thought. Skimmed part of it though. Was quite enjoyable but have to say my favourite in this little book was also the last short story.
Hope to get book of to the next person soon.

can i make a very odd observation. to me this book smells like the bed and breakfast my friend and i would stay at when we were in london. or BnB's in general. at least those are the memories this brings to mind. yes, i am sitting here smelling a book...

I really liked this one. I have never seen Breakfast at Tiffany's and I imagine much was changed in the movie version. I cant imagine Audrey Hepburn using such salty language. But thats why I liked the character, she was tougher than I imagined, not at all naive, and I was pleasantly surprised.
I also like how Capote was able to write in a slightly different voice for each story. The two middle stories were ok, the last was beautiful and heart breaking. v v glad I read this.
SomethingSimple has asked to be skipped, so I have mailed this to boirina today.

I'm halfway through but tomorrow I'll send it over to the next person on the list, and the book will go to my wish list. I would really like to finish it, but I can't keep it any longer. I've been delayed by the trip to take care of my dad in hospital and I seem to have come back to a very busy home.
I loved what I read of the book, and I don't think it's the kind of book one can hurry through... I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I have.

Received in the post this morning. It goes onto the pile! ;-)
Finished 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' sometime last week. I've only seen the movie once - and it was at least ten years ago. However, the image of Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly is so iconic, it's very hard (impossible?) to not think of her whilst reading it. The ending of the story does differ from the movie and I think I liked it better here - I like the uncertainty over what happened to Holly, and the idea that 'Fred' is still searching for her. I really enjoyed all the stories in the book - each has a very different voice. I don't know much about Truman Capote but I definitely didn't imagine him writing such sweet and poignant stories. I'll have to look up more of his stuff!
Have emailed Spike1972 and will post on when I hear back from him.

I think I have one or two(?!) before this but I'll get to it asap.

I've got to this sooner than I expected, and started it yesterday.
I've finisheed the Breakfast At Tiffany's part of this book but, as others have noted, there are other stories in this book which I will get onto next (and will probably come back to journal about).
I quite liked this story and even though I've not seen the film and I don't usually go in for 'old' films, I'm not sure I can see Audrey Hepburn in this role.
I enjoyed it but I couldn't help thinking how much better it might have been if the book had conentrated on, or was even told from the point of view of, Holly, rather than just having her as one of the main characters. As I said I've not seen the film, so perhaps that's what they did.
It also strikes me as a short story to have been made into (such a famous) film, so I'd imagine that quite a bit of the story was changed or added to it. I'm in no rush to see the film, but it would be nice to compare it one day.
Instead of making another JE, I'll come back and edit this one when I've read the other stories.
ETA:
As others have previously said, I liked the other two stories just as much as the first, if not moreso. I especially thought the third story was sweet and full of sentiment.

A rather belated addition to my Christmas present from Spike1972. This is going to be near the bottom of Mount Toobie, as it isn't that long since I read it so others have priority.
If you want to borrow it in the meantime - just ask nicely.
