Detective Chief Inspector Ryan retreats to Holy Island seeking sanctuary when he is forced to take sabbatical leave from his duties as a homicide detective. A few days before Christmas, his peace is shattered and he is thrust back into the murky world of murder when a young woman is found dead amongst the ancient ruins of the nearby Priory.
When a former local girl Dr Anna Taylor arrives back on the island as a police consultant, old memories swim to the surface making her confront her difficult past. She and Ryan struggle to work together to hunt a killer who hides in plain sight, while pagan ritual and small town politics muddy the waters of their investigation.

A who dun it with a touch of romance set on a lovely island off the coast of Northumbria. However the crimes themselves seem really unlikely especially the one where a body is left on a roof. Surely someone would have seen a person climbing a ladder with with a body over his shoulder (if that is even possible) and when the main perp is revealed that doesn't seem right either. Also, in real life, no way could Dr Taylor be put under house arrest when she had done no wrong. The best bit though was the epilogue ....

Mailed to another bookcrosser via the wishlist tag game.
Thanks so much for tagging me this book. I’ve been wanting to start this series for a while, especially as the settings for the books are local. Don’t think this will be sitting on my tbr for long.
This had me gripped from start to finish. I agree the epilogue was the best bit though. I think being familiar with the area added to my enjoyment, I don’t think I’ll look at Lindisfarne the same way the next time I visit.

Picked this as my 'read it' book and I'm glad I did. I usually only read on my commute but I've spent all weekend reading to finish it. As 3vie said, I was gripped from start to finish and the epilogue was so unexpected. I will definitely be looking for the rest of the series.
Sending on in the bookring.
This is my "Swap It" choice from the Read It, Swap It, Leave It Bookring.
I'm looking forward to reading this, but as my TBR pile is massive it may take me a while to get to it.

You are one cheeky Yorkshire-lass . Thank you for this little extra with a Wishlist tag. A first in series which will create repercussions I expect. Lovely.

I found myself questioning whether this was the first in a series as there were so many references to previous events. The epilogue, previously referred to, is a good device to get us all hooked- me too.
