I found this fair-condition hardcover at the local Saver thrift shop. It's a collection of chillers from mysteries to ghost stories, many of them classics and some contemporary. Among the more notable ones:

George Manville Fenn's "On the Down Line," a poignant and unsettling account of a mysterious death - and a doppleganger.

"The White Raven" by Dick Donovan, about a family curse, and a brave and loving young woman.

John Collier's "Back for Christmas," a darkly-humorous tale of a murderer whose planes keep getting threatened by little domestic interruptions.

"The Waits" by L. P. Hartley, a classic little chiller about a man who gets his just deserts - though the slow revelation of just what has come after him and why is very subtle.

"The Grotto" by Alexander Welch is a very creepy story - with a very touching reveal at the end.
