Once I started reading Elementary, She Read, I couldn’t put it down. The book was fast paced and kept my interest. It was an easy read, although I hadn’t originally intended to give up my entire Saturday to read it!
The book is set in Cape Cod where Gemma, who is originally from London, co-owns a Sherlock Holmes bookstore with her Uncle Arthur. They also co-own Mrs. Hudson’s Tea Room with her best friend Jayne. After a large tour group of women visit the Tea Room and then the book store, Gemma notices something out of place. This pulls both Gemma and Jayne into a murder investigation, with Gemma being the prime suspect. In true Sherlock Holmes fashion, Gemma uncovers clues and is suspicious of everyone she encounters. This then leads them to a second murder scene which raises even more questions.
From time to time I did find Gemma to be a bit overwhelming, but attributed it to character building for the series. Overall she is a likeable character and has many traits similar to the name sake of her store: keen observation, intelligence and deduction skills. Jayne’s character is built to compliment Gemma and this was handled very well.
As the book concluded, I didn’t know “who did it” until it was revealed towards the end. To me this is defines a good mystery.

This was a very well written book. Engaging story that you really didn't want to put down. I had an inkling before it was revealed as to "who did it" but the writer did an excellent job in keeping you guessing until it was revealed. I would read other books by this author and this series.
