The House on Tradd Street

A brilliant, chilling series debut, featuring a Charleston real estate agent who loves old houses and the secret histories inside them.
Practical Melanie Middleton hates to admit she can see ghosts. But she's going to have to accept it. An old man she recently met has died, leaving her his historic Tradd Street home, complete with housekeeper, dog and a family of ghosts anxious to tell her their secrets.
Enter Jack Trenholm, a gorgeous writer obsessed with unsolved mysteries. He has reason to believe that diamonds from the Confederate Treasury are hidden in the house. So he turns the charm on with Melanie, only to discover he's the smitten one...
It turns out Jack's search has caught the attention of a malevolent ghost. Now, Jack and Melanie must unravel a mystery of passion, heartbreak and even murder.

Bought this for my holidays and I loved it!
just the perfect combination of mystery - ghost story and historical information!
Romance could have been a bit more prominent and I was hoping for a happy end, but then I realized that this is the first of three (?) books so I have to wait for that :-)
In the beginning I was very annoyed with Melanie, people who are so organized, live such a structured life are a bit alien to me.. (and having read a book about a man with Asperger's she seemed just the same type!! but she isn't..). She became better ..
I loved Jack and his mother!
Anyway - I will offer this as a ring - maybe someone else would like to read it, too!

I started reading it last evening...
I might take a while, as I am going on holidays next Tuesday, and might not be able to finish it before leaving... and I won't have time to read during my trip!
However, its start is very promising... thanks for sharing!

Finally finished reading it last night.
I have mixed feelings: I loved the supernatural part, with Melanie as a realtor lady who can see ghosts since childhood. But at times it read too much like ChickLit, with all the romantic stuff, incredibly handome guys (the good and the bad one), etc...
I won't give anything away, but the last part when the characters look for a code... well, it was so obvious, that I could not believe they would not see it, and took so long beating around the bushes! Oh, well...
Having said that, I will probably look for the second book in the series.
It took me a long time to read it, not because it was not interesting, but because it caught me at a hectic time of work. ç
Thanks for sharing, kiki66, and sorry for keeping it so long, it will soon go on its way to Switzerland.

To be honest, I wasn't really sure what I was signing up for when I signed up for this ring, but I have shared many books with the person launching the ring and know we are often on the same page, so to speak. I was working my way through another ring here (and I guess "working" is the operative term, as I was not carried by the book at all), and in selecting a book for a couple of hours in the train to and fro an appointment, I realized I'd finish that one off and would have to drag it, as well as another, all day. So I picked up this ring which had arrived in the meantime. This picked me up and carried me right away - in fact I rather grudgingly put it to the side so as to finish the other ring once I got back home.
I really appreciated the dry humor and wittiness of the characters. The paranormal aspect was fun, and the slightly understated OCD of the heroine was an interesting quirk. I am now a fan, and hope to read others in this series.... (hint, hint, hint... sign me up for a spiral??)
I'm very glad this came up as a ring - I doubt I would have stumbled over it otherwise. Fun read.
This will head next to the Netherlands - I've written to confirm the address. Thanks so much for sending and making this available!

This is now leaving the Alps and heading north to the lowlands. Enjoy!
Arrived here on a very stormy day. Great timing as I just finished a book and was looking to start a new one. Thanks penelopewanders and for the lovely card too!
Well, I like ghosts and old houses, so this sounds like it's right up my alley. :)
Thanks for organising the bookring Kiki66!

This was an enjoyable read even though the main character did annoy me sometimes, she is so very stubborn, even if some things are pretty obvious (like the thing with Marc). I like the supernatural parts that were slightly scary but not too much. And the setting of Charleston is nicely atmospheric too. There is some mystery which made it more interesting, though the bit with the cryptogram had me wondering how Melanie and Jack didn't see the words that had been in front of them all the time. Still, it was a nice light read.
On its way to CathrineB now. Happy reading!

The book arrived with me today. Thanks to Tsjara for the colouring postcard and the tea:) Colouring books/postcards for adults are popular here in Norway as well, and I'm one of those who are a bit addicted.
Although Melanie was a bit annoying sometimes, I just had to keep reading to see how it ended! I have to admit I was thinking that Melanie had Asperger's (partly because of the fact that she couldn't keep her legs still).
I do so have to read the next book in the series: The Girl on Legare Street.

The book, along with the teas, postcard and bookmark have all arrived here safely in the UK. I've just started another ring after battling my way through my previous book. So, hopefully I will get to reading this in the next week or so.

I've really enjoyed this book and looking forward to reading the next installments. This book also made for a welcome reprieve after finishing one heavy going book and struggling with another. I'm now giving the second heavy going book another attempt. As this book is also going to Icila I shall send them together.

Got it ! Thank you.
I had a surprisingly good time reading this one. I don't really understand Melanie but I'm looking forward for the sequel.
On its way to Australia. Enjoy !
Has arrived got misplaced I went on holidays yadda yadda yadda now on the pile
Not the sort of book I would normally read I think I must have put my name down thinkig it was more a horror story. Though well written I found it fairly cliched especially the good and bad boyfriends and Melanie as a modern miss suddenly going all weak kneed just pushed the envelope a little too far. Shall pm the next person
This arrived a couple of weeks ago. Just forgot to journal it. Thanks for posting! Already started reading.
Posted to the next reader yesterday.
Safe and sound today in my letter box, thanks Lilyklip for sending and the bookmark. I finish my current english reading and it will be the next : I'll take it with me in Sicily for my previous holidays in ten days.

The book arrived today, thanks for sending it, as well as the card from Versailles and the bookmark! Unfortunately it arrived as the third ring-book this week, so it will be a while before I'll meet Melanie and her ghosts...
Thank you all for taking good care of my book! and thank you for the three lovely bookmarks!
At least one of the sequels is back home.
The others are all lost at appletreen's :-(
