Recived this in the mail today. Thanks Pokpok. I have one and a half books ahead of this on my TBR pile. One bookray and half of another book I am currently reading.

I read all of it, but I just couldn't get in to it. Sure, the author is funny enough, for about the first two chapters, then you just start feeling like you wish he'd shut up because he's not funny. It's like going to see a stand-up comic who's not funny and you just feel so bad for him, standing there telling lame jokes.

Just got in the mail and will get to in a week.

Can't wait.

I love this book and will now read whatever I can get my hands on by Tom Raabe.

The first 20 pages were a bit annoying and I see how some other readers may have put it down early but something told me to hold on. It was worth it to read something that made me laugh at myself and others who share my addiction.

Will send it on to annaky this weekend.

Yay! I'm looking forward to reading this soon.

I got about half-way through the book, and then my life went into high gear, and I wasn't able to finish it. I could have kept the book longer, but I have so many piling up behind it that I didn't want to keep everyone behind.

It was an entertaining read. I didn't identify with most of it because I'm not a serious biblioholic, but that part about buying books because they're discounted did make me grin. I do that now because of BookCrossing more than I ever did BBC (Before BookCrossing). Another part I liked is the description of scholarly biblioholics. I work in an academic library, so I could relate to much of what was written about them.

I'll probably end up picking up a copy of this from a library sometime and finishing it.

I'm pretty sure I qualify for the title of "biblioholic"!! Received this book in the mail today. I'll be starting it soon!

Journal Entry 10 by Catwoman from Sherwood Park, Alberta Canada on Tuesday, May 4, 2004
This book is missing two things: the impact of the Internet on book-buying, and the impact of Bookcrossing on not needing to store tons of books! I loved the description of the fantasy bookstore - I want one of those!

Will pass this book on as soon as I get the next participant's address.

I found the book very funny and satyrical but wordy. Will skip MandMsMom at her request. Waiting on Book-Bugger's address.

Um.... I think if you've read or are wanting to read this book, you may forgive my lateness in journalling it....

Someone (my husband) must have put it on one of our bookshelves before I had the chance to journal this.... I do remember opening the package, but I was awfully surprised and embarrassed to find it on the bookshelf just now. Since I have had it for so long, I will pm the next person today for his/her address, skim through the book, and get it moving quickly.

Sheepishly sorry,
Kate

It's here, I'll start with it as soon as I finish Middlesex. Looks good!

Update

I saw myself reflected in this book so many times! There was one particular situation that the author referred to that was especially funny since I do it all the time: Biblioholics are recognizable in bookstores because in the attempt to stop their compulsive book-shopping they enter a bookstore with a budget in mind. So there we are, changing several times the books we chose to buy: a $25 one that a little ahead is replace by 2 $12... come back and maybe chose this $20 and ad the little $10 one.
I do that all the time and now that I think about it, I see a lot o people doing it too :o)

Received in the mail from Xana - thanks! I have 1 bookray ahead of this, but I'm almost done with it. Also, I had to skip vampgirl for another bookray last week - she's been MIA for ~3 months, so I'll contact MarieStardust instead to pass this along.

9/16/04 - started reading; how pathetic is this: I gave a little Homer "Woohoo!" when I was able to answer "no" to the question (in the quiz) "Do you have 6 or more books beside your bed?". I only have 4 :-) I'm doomed.

9/17/04 - finished this morning....this was a pretty scary book, all in all. I'm not as bad as some of the extreme people he mentions, but I had 2 aunts who were - so I've seen first-hand how out of control it is possible to get. Maybe that is why I'm able to keep my buying/hoarding somewhat in check; I don't want to follow their example! Both bought on impulse; one (a former librarian) did read a lot of her books and was good about sharing/giving away books, but the other just had stacks and stacks of books and never read 99% of them. She would let family members read them, but it was pretty much impossible to adopt one to keep (I tried!).

Loved the rule about turning down corners (in the "Ten Rules for Handling Books") - "All who mark a page by turning down a corner in any of these books, or even think about doing so, shall immediately be escorted to the guillotine in the garage."

9/25/04 - mailed to MarieStardust

I read in English so slowly, sorry for the delay, PokPok !

I really liked this novel, so funny. Hopefully I'm not a real biblioholic :)

Mailed today to torksoul who's in UK now.

Journal Entry 22 by torksoul from Boston, Massachusetts USA on Tuesday, February 1, 2005
Got the book! Thanks - and sorry for the delay in updating. Guess I was too busy reading..hehe. Will let you know how I get on! I currently only have ONE book beside my bed...called "Parenting: What really counts?" which is a fun way of freaking out my boyfriend of 6 months (it's in fact for one of my Psychology modules, but I'm hoping the information will come in useful one day on a more personal level too...)

Journal Entry 23 by lostbookisland on Sunday, October 23, 2005
This book has arrived at the Lost Book Island because it seems to have been many months delayed while on its perpetual bookray path. There were many people enjoying the book and then all the communication stopped. There have been no new journal entries for more than 8 months now. Where has this book gotten off to? Is is stacked in a pile with other books? Did it in fact get mailed and is lost in postal wilds? The only way that this question can get answered is to get a new journal entry and we hope that day will come soon.

In the meantime, this book has been given some space at the Lost Book Island. There are plenty of book-ish friends around to help keep it company and lots and lots of fun activities to occupy the days while waiting for the happy day of new journal entries.
