Wow. Elizabeth Kim did indeed live a life of ten thousand sorrows. It just kept going from bad to worse. I wanted to throttle her adoptive parents. It didn't seem they loved her at all. I can't imagine a childhood, or a marriage like she had.

*************SPOILER ALERT!*************************
Don't read on until you've finished the book.

What surprised me and disturbed me even more was Elizabeth's fantasies of suicide. I couldn't believe that she was going to hang herself just like her mother was hanged. I know she was depressed, probably clinically depressed, but it seemed so strange that she would put her daughter through even a smidgen of what she'd gone through grieving her mother.
