Not familiar with this author, but since three books in the series were in the box, I'll give him a try.

San Antonio police officer Eddie Hudson finds himself dealing with unexpected hazards during his shift: walking, biting, contagious hazards. All he really wants to do is find his family and get them to safety, but first he has to fight off the zombie hordes.

Pretty good, although shorter than I thought since there's a 4-chapter preview of the next book at the back.
