Touching the Void by Joe Simpson
Touching the Void is the heart-stopping account of Joe Simpson's terrifying adventure in the Peruvian Andes. He and his climbing partner, Simon, reached the the summit of the remote Siula Grande in June 1995. A few days later, Simon staggered into Base Camp, exhausted and frost-bitten, with news that that Joe was dead.

What happened to Joe, and how the pair dealt with the psychological traumas that resulted when Simon was forced into the appalling decision to cut the rope, makes not only an epic of survival but a compelling testament of friendship.

Given to me by my friend at her brilliant WBN party last night, thanks! I'm looking forward to touching the void some time in the future...

I wasn't sure at first with all the climbing terminology and descriptions of mountains and snow (what did I expect?!) but before long I was hooked. Even though I sort of vaguely knew what the outcome would be it was still really exciting, and the knowledge that something bad was going to happen gave it a sense of impending doom I don't often get from the books I normally read. Not knowing the story very well, every time someone so much as slipped I thought they were goners!

Journal Entry 7 by Mumath at -- controlled release --, Appenzell Innerrhoden Switzerland on Sunday, December 6, 2015
I got this book from a Londoner in Chicago, took it back home to Switzerland and just read it on my wonderfull an adventurous trip through southamerica. The book was fantastic and while I was travelling through the Andes aswell, it seemed so real and close to me. I used to be a climber when I was younger.;-)
Now I will leave this book at the Hostal Punto Urbano in Mendoza (Argentinia) and I am wondering who is reading it next...
