Journal Entry 1 by GoryDetails from Nashua, New Hampshire USA on Sunday, April 15, 2012
I found this cute little book at a local Dollar Store, and at that price I thought it was worth picking up. I'd been looking for a very small book with a movie theme to use as the bookbox journal for my Based on the Book Bookbox, and this will be it! The book itself contains stills and quotes from several Disney films, all themed on kisses, whether romantic, friendly, or parental. And as most of the films were based on books (though they seldom stayed entirely true to them {wry grin}, it fits the theme of the box. The theme of the box: books which were adapted to film, any genre. [No film-to-books, though, just book-to-film.] See the forum thread (link above) for more info on the theme of the box, with discussion of what's allowed (example: made-for-TV movies, books-to-stage) and what isn't (example: novelizations of films). As I'm starting the box with quite a few books in it, I'm going to allow some shrinkage; that is, you can replace the books you take with two or three FEWER books if you want. Any genre goes, and you don't have to replace your selections with books of the same genre, but I would like to see the box continue with an eclectic mix of old and new titles and genres. Please journal this book when you receive the box, contact the next in line for an address, list the books you're taking and adding, and get the box moving again within a couple of weeks. Enjoy! Participants, in mailing order: haahaahaa98 (MA) JudySlump612 (MN) Minerva101 (Canada) Dunzy (Canada) [asked to be skipped] spfldjohn (MA) eponine38 (MA) k00kaburra (CA) hyphen8 (HI) ksloan23 (KS) ravencat (NY) [moved down at ravencat's request] MoonBeach03 (TN) Isabel-Batteria (PR) ergoqed (CO) mfisher123 (AL) ...and back to GoryDetails (NH).

Box mailed on 4/17, DC# 03103490000122725144 . It's not going far, so hopefully it'll arrive by the end of the week! The contents of the bookbox as it begins its journey include new books with old movies, old books with new movies, and books of roughly the same age as the movies - and one book whose movie hasn't quite come out yet! There are a few hardcovers, some new or newish books, and quite a few well-aged paperbacks in varying stages of repair. Genres from humor to horror, science fiction to non-fiction, noir classics to modern hits. I hope there's something to appeal to everyone... The titles, starting out: Vertigo Let Me In A Night to Remember The Hunger Games The Friendly Persuasion Red Dragon Imitation of Life The Thin Man Slumdog Millionaire Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Little Big Man Ice Blues The Borrowers The Incredible Journey The Magnificent Ambersons Raffles: the Amateur Cracksman Forbush and the Penguins Terms of Endearment House of Mirth Diary of a Nobody The Mouse on the Moon Donovan's Brain When Worlds Collide 1984 Sardonicus and Other Stories Psycho The Boys from Brazil Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? In Book to Movie bookbox. Quite a brilliant idea to tag entries onto this book as a journal. Looks like we've got about a turnover of 7 or 8 books from the outset.

Glad it made it, and hopefully the books are still fairly dry. It was quite packed to the brim and I had to rearrange a number of the paperbacks so that they all fit. Quite quick for Media Mail, btw. Go USPS!

Journal Entry 8 by JudySlump612 at Minneapolis, Minnesota USA on Monday, May 14, 2012
This was a first-rate box, Gory, with a lot of good choices to take out, and it was surprisingly easy to find replacements. I hope you'll consider doing another round; if you do, DrSlump & I are ready to sign up! Here's what I chose: - Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, Farrell - Diary of a Nobody, Grossmith - Imitation of Life, Hurst - The Ambassadors, James - Palace Walk, Mahfouz - Magnificent Ambersons, Tarkington And I replaced them with: - Midwives, Bohjalian - A Man For All Seasons, Bolt - Passage to India, Forster - Princess Bride, Goldman - English Patient, Ondaatje - Age of Innocence, Wharton DrSlump chose 'Slumdog Millionaire' and replaced it with 'The Golden Compass.' And we both cheated and read 'Sardonicus,' then put it back - but we did journal it. Thank you again for the box. Minerva101 has sent me her address, so it should go to the PO tomorrow morning (in a new, non-waterlogged box).

Journal Entry 30 by Isabel-Batteria at San Juan, Puerto Rico USA on Thursday, December 27, 2012
The box made it to Puerto Rico! I'm so happy I got it, I've enjoyed it so much! Thanks to GoreyDetails for setting it up and to MoonBeach03 for sending it to me. I noticed that not one single book GoreyDetails started this box with is still in the box. However, The Boys from Brazil was in that first list and I will replace it with my own copy, hehe. I am trying to read at least two books in the box's two-week stay at home, so that I can send them away too. Already read one! I'm taking out: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close Everything is Illuminated The Golden Compass A Separate Peace The Cider House Rules The Girl Who Played with Fire It (I'll add it to a Stephen King box I'll be hosting) Replacing with: No Country for Old Men The Boys from Brazil Lord of the Flies The Black Dahlia The Great Gatsby On the Road Invisible Man The Name of the Rose Read before sending the box out: Confessions of a Shopaholic I hope you enjoy my additions! I'll contact the next in line soon and send it out at the beginning of 2013. I am truly amazed by the discipline and commitment of all of this ring's participants. Thanks so much!
