Cork Boat

Sounds intriguing. I love a good story about a dreamer realizing his dreams.
Ugh, this was absolutely the wrong book to read while I'm suffering from restlessness, winter blah's, and wanderlust. I am so, so envious of John Pollack and all the incredible things he's done with his life.
Think about it. In this book he decides to build a boat out of wine corks. Realizing that he can't secure enough corks all by himself, he asks bars and restaurants around the D.C. area to save them, too. Then he writes to the Cork Supply Co. and they donate all he needs. So he builds the boat -- after he finishes a stint as a speechwriter for President Clinton, and then after he takes a couple months to go to Antarctica. (Oh, the envy is killing me! I am pea-green, I tell you!) Then he builds his boat and the Cork Supply company offers to send him to Portgual to sail the coark boat down a river there.
I sat enthralled, reading of his adventures and wondering whether I'll ever do anything like this with my life. ...sigh...
I'm adding this to the Travel Narrative bookbox. It's not your average travel tale, but instead embodies the idea that: it's about the journey, not the destination.
Enjoy!

My Review: I really enjoyed this book! I have never been such a dreamer that I had such a wild idea and ended up doing it! That's amazing. I also liked that so many of his friends and family helped and encouraged him to build a cork boat. It's an amazing story of what can be accomplished, turning a dream into reality.

Pollack is a dreamer, but he proved that he could make his dream a reality. It took lots of hard work and lots of people pulling together to float the cork boat!
