My favorite book of 2011. I could not put it down! I originally read a library copy of this book and loved it so much I bought a couple copies to share on bookcrossing. I hope others enjoy it as much as I did.

The story takes place in the 1930's in the state of North Carolina. It's a story of Nellie Pritchard and 4 other women who are all connected by one man. They each take turns telling their story as it relates to Hobbs Pritchard.

It's got all my favorite ingredients: historical fiction, a few appearances by a ghost or two, it's southern fiction, it's a love story (albeit a different kind of love story). It's also got an interesting mother/daughter theme. My daughter read it right after I did and when she finished we stayed up late into the night having a glass of wine, talking about it.

I am happy to learn that the author is working on more books involving some of the same characters. Combine Alice Hoffman with Sue Monk Kidd and you've got Ghost on Black Mountain. I LOVED THIS!

I really enjoyed this book. I was drawn into the story and I had a hard time puttin the book down. The story is told in five parts by five different women spanning generations. They are all connected by a murder. the book could have been caslled "Ghosts on Black Mountain" as there were appearances by more than one ghost.

The author says she is currently working on two more books with characters from this book. I look forward to reading more about some of these characters.

Nellie Pritchard grabs you by the soul and sucks you in.

Black Mountain is alive and full of ghosts. Nellie discovers the haunts shortly after marrying Hobbs and moving to Black Mountain. As the secrets of the mountain start to unfold for Nellie she makes a very important decision that changes the mountain forever.

Told in the voiced of five woman, Ghost on Black Mountain sucks you in from page one. I was immediately drawn to the story and couldn't put the book down. Even though I loved the story and would highly recommend this book to anyone, I did feel the ending fell a little flat. The story takes off hard and fast and builds on itself with little pieces revealing themselves at just the right time. With each new voice that is introduced to the story line, the raging fire introduced from the beginning starts to slowly die until only smoldering embers are left at the end.

Like everyone else, I could barely put this book down. I loved the Appalachian setting. My grandmother grew up on a hill like this in Tennessee, though I doubt it had as many ghosts.

I was so happy to read the interview with the author at the end and found that she's writing two more follow-up books that feature characters from this book. I can't wait to read those! For now, I'll pass this along to my mom. I think she'll enjoy it.
