The times I've done it, I've assigned entrants numbers based on the order in which they responded and then rolled percentile dice to pick the names.

I'm not sure what sort of space you'll have in your vehicle, but you may want to check the Chicago Criagslist offerings for free books while you're in town. I see ads for bulk book giveaways all the time. ...
