"To Say Nothing of the Dog" (set in Victorian England) is fun, and not too otherworldly. I like "Doomsday Book" even better, but it is quite dark (set in the Middle Ages).

It's an enjoyable read, especially if you're a baby boomer (I'm not, but my husband is). I'm reading a library copy, otherwise I'd send it to you once I've finished. I hope Santa fulfils your wish!
