I'm also in the middle of Tudor England - I'm reading Henry VIII and his Court by Alison Weir. It's fairly heavy-going but I like the Tudor era.

I am in the middle of 'Swinging London' today. This very modern book is 'Flirting' by Kathleen Tessaro. It's not as good as her others, but enjoyable.

I studied Frankenstein at university which was very interesting! I don't read horror stories usually, but I enjoyed this and could certainly see why it was such a classic.

I'm reading Hunting and Gathering, which is all the rage, but most of the characters annoy me a bit! Camille won't eat, Franck is selfish where his gran is concerned and I'm finding the situation in the book depressing s…

If I see a good book that isn't too expensive I'll often buy it, although I get a lot from the library!
Even second-hand bookshops tend to be expensive in Australia. The Alumni booksale of UQ is great, however. On t…

I joined a French Literature group. This is surprisingly light, although the politics and philosophy become a bit heavy at times, and I can highly recommend her writing.

What really annoys me is that the people who say this usually say it very proudly! They say it to me as if to say: "You're such a lazy sod - of course you have time to read!" One told me that he wasn't a reader; he was a…

I'm reading Marie Antoinette by Antonia Fraser and Dancing with Kings, a historical novel by Eva Strachniak. They go well together although I don't like the second one all that much.

I agree. Also I think that it's interesting to see what other's tastes are in books from their PC. It's the only section that really gives an idea of that.
Sometimes too the books are treasured keepsakes or presents.…

I love Edith Wharton's writing and this one is surprisingly modern. Set in the 1920's it involves a very efficient woman who is interested in 'New Age' phiosophies, and her husband who is becoming bored with this. He is…
