UPDATED 4.3.2023 Friend requests from suspicious accounts

February 26, 2023
4 March 2023:
We can confirm that our Tech Team are aware of the issue and have commenced working on it. At this time there is no timeline of when it will be fully resolved.

The advice remains not to click on the hyperlink in the extended profile section of these accounts sending friend requests.

The Volunteer BookCrossing Support Team no longer requires you to contact them with your reports of receiving Friend Requests alerts by email.
See below for advice on how to turn these alerts off.

1 March 2023:
Needless to say (but we'll say it anyway) do not click on the hyperlink in the extended profile section of these accounts sending friend requests.

Did you know you can turn off the Friend Request function on your profile?
Edit profile and look under Notification Preferences: Friend Alerts
Switch to “no thanks” to disable them
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "SAVE"

This will mean that you will not receive alerts when someone requests to add you as a friend.

28th February 2023:
Please see our most recent update here in the Bugs and Broken Bits Reporting forum.

25th February 2023:
We’re aware that some members have received friend request alerts from suspicious looking accounts.
The action to take in this instance, and in any instance where you suspect suspicious or questionable activity on the BookCrossing website, is to utilize the Contact Us button at the bottom of the page to alert the Volunteer BookCrossing Support Team, in order for them to take action.

Thank you.
