I'm a Welshman currenty living in Leicester. I came across bookswapping while travelling around Sri Lanka a few years ago. I took several books with me but didn't want to keep the weight in my backpack so left them in hotels or gave them to people i met and picked up other books from 'communal' bookshelves. The thing I loved most was reading books that I would not normally buy - when you buy a book you tend to play safe and stick to authors or genres you are fond of to avoid wasting money. My best find was "Middlesex" by Geoffrey Eugenides - I avoided it on the shelf in Sri Lanka for a long time because I thought it was a historical book about the English county! When I'd worked my way through every available book there I finally read it (it was either that or "Sense & Sensibility" in German!). It was an amazing book and remains one of my all time favourites to this day. I would have loved to be able to track the books i'd given away and to say thank you to the person who left "Middlesex" on that dusty little shelf. I'm hoping that i'll be able to do this in the future with bookcrossing :)
