Das ist ein Buch, das mich aus dem Stehgreif begeistert hat und das ich immer wieder gerne zur Hand nehme. - Und im Stillen träume ich nach wie vor davon, mit Primaten zu arbeiten, um die Faszination von Evolution mitzuerleben.

Washoe - is the name of a female chimpanzee. Her life is described by Roger Fouts in his book "Next of kin". When Fouts met the chimpanzee girl called Washoe his whole life was changed. Washoe became family member, Fouts became father - and together they proved the scientific world that it is possible for chimpanzees to interact with humans by language, in that case the American Sign Language (ASL). "Next of kin" is fascinating, interesting, bares heart and mind. I am very impressed by that book. - And I do still hope to work with primates one day, because evolution is such a fascinating thing and we rarely have the chance to face our brothers and talk to them. Perhaps one day computer sensors will be able to translate them what we think and say or the other way round. But that is one day. Facing them today is social and enriching.
