Oh my goodness… I can’t believe I have taken so long to get back to Bookcrossing! It has been a LONG, LOOOOOONG time! Well, I’m on a mission to get back into BC with gusto. I’d love to reconnect with the wonderful people I used to chat to on here 💚

Life got, and continues to be, a little crazy. I have two children, who are 8 and 6. Almost 4 years ago my youngest was diagnosed with a very rare genetic condition, for which he will need lifelong care. So I spend my days run ragged! They’re both a lot of fun though :)

I’ve hardly read at all in the past couple of years but as I have dreadful insomnia at the moment I’m aiming to reignite my love of reading in a bid to help settle my mind for sleep. (Please feel free to interrogate me re. how much I’ve read and nag when necessary! 😂)

I gave up my career in dentistry fairly recently (due to arthritis in my hands) and now work in a primary school where I mostly help with numeracy and literacy.
-I’ve recently qualified as a Makaton trainer (we use Makaton a lot at home, and I use it at work - it’s fabulous!)

-I absolutely love animals and nature. I have a dog, (Luna, named after the wonderful Luna Lovegood,) two Pygmy goats (Pickett and Newt, named after Newt Scamander and his cute Bowtruckle,) as well as two guinea pigs, four rescued hens and a fish (Mary). If I ever become rich I'd like to buy some land and open an animal sanctuary :)
-I am a volunteer Bat Carer- I rehabilitate and release bats found by members of the public- and I volunteer with a charity rescuing and rehoming hens from commercial egg farms.
-My daughter and I have just signed up to volunteer with a local charity who run a rewilding project in our village.
-I'm vegan, and always appreciate new recipes if anyone has any?!

-I love Disney, (going to WDW, Florida for the first time in October 2023!!) and my very favourite character is Mary Poppins.
-I love vintage, especially Victorian or 1940s and I also love old skeleton keys, anything ‘witchy’, Snow White and afternoon tea…

I refuse to grow up and still regularly read children's books. My favourites are The little Prince, The Velveteen Rabbit, Ballet Shoes, anything by Roald Dahl and most of all, HARRY POTTER. I'm obsessed. I’m still waiting for that letter inviting me to Hogwarts but I think the owl must be lost…

Bookshelf & Wishlist:

My bookshelf and wishlist doesn't necessarily reflect my taste in books - I sometimes like to collect some just to release, and I know it's terrible but sometimes I do judge a book by its cover (in that I see it, like the cover for some reason and decide I must read the book before even reading the blurb!) however I've found that this has introduced me to many books and authors I wouldn't otherwise have experienced - you just won't know if you don't try! I sometimes buy a copy of a book I love and already own, so I can release it and share the joy!

Exchanges/sweepstakes;-

For exchanges etc, anything that fits into the rambling above and is vegan, would be most welcome! As would surprises, wings, crystals/gemstone chips, and spell jars if anyone makes them?

NOW READING :

Go Tell the Bees that I Am Gone - Diana Gabaldon.
………………………………

I regularly read a short piece of writing titled “Welcome to Holland”. It’s beautiful 🥲

And finally...

"If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales."

Albert Einstein.

"Second hand books are wild books, homeless books; they have come together in vast flocks of variegated feather, and have a charm which the domesticated volumes of the library lack."

Virginia Woolf
