History of tnkbl in 5 1/2 Chapters

1. Welcome to my bookshelf! I can use all the karma I can get, so here's the deal: if you are interested in anything on my bookshelf marked "available," feel free to ask me for it. I'd be happy to send it too you, if you don't mind paying for the shipping. But unfortunately, I must limit my mailing to the US only.

2. I'm the president of a small publishing and book distribution company (called Shen's Books,, and I tend to end up with way more books than I could possibly read myself. Mostly I get advance reading copies from publishers marketing a new title, but I also get a wide range of published review copies too. I can't read them all!

3. My favorite reading is contemporary fiction. I don't usually pick up anything that was written before, say, 1950. I especially like things that are a little quirky (John Irving, Kurt Vonnegut, Life of Pi, Time Traveler's Wife), as opposed to things that are "epic," "sweeping," and "heart-wrenching" (Gone With the Wind). But that might be an overgeneralization, because I also like a good romance every once in a while.

3 1/2. I do judge books by their covers. I'm sorry. It's terrible.

4. Yes, I have two kitties. The big gray & white one is Kevin, and the little orange one is Charlie. Charlie is about 11 months old, and he's already bigger than many grown cats. Kevin is 7 years old and he's bigger than MOST grown cats. They're such boys, constantly battling and wrestling. But they are both EXCEEDINGLY friendly and welcome all visitors.

5. I have not registered anything in my permanent collection yet. I'm still trying to decide about that.

I finally broke down and started a Wish List!
Oh so fun. (Thanks cliff1976)
My Wish List:

Here's the rating system I'm going to use from now on, which I got from Starbytes, who got it from Gizmopuddy, who got this from Sugarkane(now florafloraflora) and Scism. :-)...
10: Excellent, at the top of its category. This book has impacted me deeply, challenged me profoundly, or has simply been a pure delight to read.
9: Great book - just a nitpick stands between it and a 10
8: Good, solid book that I would recommend to others.
7: Good book, but it didn't grab me in a big way.
6: Decent, but not my type of book.
5: Maybe somebody else would like this. I didn't.
4: Only OK. Barely worth reading. The line between taking it and leaving it is very thin.
2-3: Has major problems. I don't recommend it.
1: It's hard to imagine anyone liking this book." target="_top">Free Web ALIGN="middle" HSPACE="4" VSPACE="2">" target="_top">Free Hit Counter
