Extended Profile
I am a history addict and only read that usually. I recently acquired Newhall's English Conquest of Normandy, a book I'd been looking for since c1977.
My interests are anything to do with history especially visiting historic towns, villages, monasteries and buildings in the UK, France, Italy, Spain and Portugal by driving there. For instance I have seen 82 Italian fortified places including castles, forts(incl. trace Italienne),towns and villages but don't claim to have penetrated inside as many are private or closed when I pass by. Gradara was amazing. Unfortunately I visited Chateau Queyras in the Franco/Italian Alps before seeing le film Le Bossu (the hunchback). Had I seen the film before visiting I would have jokingly accused the girl I saw on entry when I arrived of being une ennemi de le Duc de Nevers !!!!
My favourite possession is a tiny piece of wood I looted from the barrack block burnt by Boudica in her revolt against the Romans in AD60-1 !!!!
Books are an addiction and have plastered 5 walls at home. In looking at a new book I have to consider the question 'Does this book contribute more to the subject ?'
Help I'm in danger of being overun by books !!!!!!
Books that are not histories which I've listed are there for the sake of providing books on a pubs shelves and are often not mine own
