Extended Profile
All right. That's it. I give up.
I can't stop trading books. I really can't. I tried. I get the shakes.
Yes, I realize I may forever live in the shadow of the mountain of books by my bedside, but what would life be like without bookcrossing? Perish the thought.
All trading is heretofore back on. What was I thinking?
Let's start with My Wish List !
In general, I like:
--literary fiction
--award-winning books of any genre
--intelligent humor (usually dry)
--nonfiction that either reads like a novel or inspires passion (not too dry)
--biographies
--travel and adventure narratives--Arctic shipwrecks, Everest expeditions, treasure hunts (stuff I'll never experience other than in books). Bill Bryson is a favorite.
--Well-written books on writing well
--children's lit of the C.S. Lewis, George McDonald, Andrew Lang, Madeleine L'Engle and, yes, J.K. Rowling varieties, pretty big on Jonathan Carroll right now, too
I've also been known to sink into a good mystery, epic saga, fantasy series or airplane-variety page-turner from time to time.
Closed Bookrings:
April Witch
Drowning Ruth
Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind
Stolen Lives: Twenty Years in a Desert Jail
Fair Peril
Open Bookrings:
Einstein's Dreams--BOOKRAY
The Little Friend--Bookring
Bookrings/rays I Can Remember Joining (Ah, those tempting titles...somebody stop me!)
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
Dude, Where's My Country? by Michael Moore
The Vampire Chronicles (first 3 books) by Anne Rice
The Silver Metal Lover by Tanith Lee
The Alienist by Caleb Carr
The Twilight of American Culture by Morris Berman
Living Out Loud by Anna Quindlen
Krakatoa: The Day the Earth Exploded by Simon Winchester
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
Life of Pi by Yann Martel
Scottish Fairy Tales by Lomond Books (categorized as nonfiction :D)
Fifty Fabulous Chocolate Cakes by Rita Erlich
A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. LeGuin
Me talk Pretty Someday by David Sedaris
Lamb; the Gospel According to Biff
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame

HAPPY READING!
