"A room without books is like a body without a soul." ~ Marcus T. Cicero

I have loved books from the moment I learned to read. My first grade teacher would award us with a construction-paper circle that had the name of the book on it every time we would read another book. She would attach these circles to one another and created a "bookworm" that circled our classroom several times. At the end of the year, she gave each of us our own "bookworm" to take home with the circles of all the books we read throughout the year - mine was the longest one in the class!

My mom was an English teacher before she made the decision to stay home and raise my two sisters and I. She would jokingly tell people about my love of reading by saying "Kelly would read the phone book if that was the only book in the room!" Her love of books was passed on to me and by the time I was about fourteen years old, she started sharing her books with me and making recommendations of books I should read. I remember her placing her old copy of "To Kill a Mockingbird" in my room the summer after my junior year of high school with the suggestion, "You might like this one." I will always be grateful to her for that recommendation as "To Kill A Mockingbird" is probably my all time favorite book.

Now, I am a wife, a mother, a full-time administrative coordinator, and an avid knitter, so getting a chance to read is not always the easiest thing for me to fit in with everything else. When I do get to read, though, I usually do it with gusto and can finish a good book in relatively short time to the detriment of everything else in my life (work, housekeeping...even personal hygiene).

Right now, I enjoy reading non-fiction works on topics that just sound interesting to me - there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to them...for example, in the past few years, my non-fiction choices have included a couple of books about the Mormon Church and the FLDS(I'm Catholic, so go figure), a book about Harry S. Truman, celebrity biographies, and books about China. My fiction choices include the usual Chick-Lit and Romance novels - I am especially fond of writers like Jennifer Weiner, Cecilia Ahern, and in the last year I've discovered Debbie Macomber. I also enjoy more dramatic fiction writers like Wally Lamb, David Guterson, and Jodi Picoult. I have read all of the "Hannah Swensen" mysteries, by JoAnne Fluke, although I'm not usually a big mystery fan (love all those recipes!).

I'm always on the lookout for something new and unusual since you never know when you might find your next favorite book. Just randomly happening onto a really good one, I find, makes a book even more enjoyable - which is why the whole concept of BookCrossing.com appeals to me so much.

If you see something on my shelf that is available and that you are interested in, please PM me and let me know. I will consider all requests for books that are available on my shelf on a case by case basis - with a preference for those who might have something to exchange in trade. I will also consider out of the country requests depending on the cost to ship the book.
