"Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read." ~Groucho Marx
I saw this quote after losing my "old lady dog" who made it to almost 17 years. With a lonely heart, I thought about the fact that it would be extremely too dark to read inside a dog. The quote made me smile on a day when I was missing my dear four legged friend; I reached for a book and focused on the present and got caught up in a world of the written word.
-----
My husband and I love books. Between my volunteer work with Friends of the Library and the closest thing to a hobby that I have with bookcrossing, my spare time outside of work is filled with books and the printed word. I can't imagine a world without a binded book that you can hold in your hands or a world where you don't have to embark on a quest to find a "treasure."
On a separate note, the remaining dog is called "Atlas" after guess what book... "Atlas Shrugged" I believe a dog's name should pass the following test. You should be able to say "Kill (dog's name) Kill" and if the name sounds okay, it is an acceptable name. Obviously, "Kill Atlas, Kill" has a literary reference but also passes the "kill" test.
