Extended Profile
As you can see by my screen name I am an elementary school librarian and I love my job, I love books and reading, and I love the kids I work with everyday. It has been some time since I first heard about "read and release" but it just sounds like me. The
idea of leaving a book where someone might pick it up and read it and then realease it again is wonderful, and the fact that I might be able to see all the places it ends up is very exciting. I love finding old books that have names and notes written in them,
and wondering who those people were and what they were like.
I prefer reading history, or at least historical fiction. I am currently reading Thirteen Moons by Charles Frazier; The Giant Book of Ghost Stories; & Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas. I have a large collection of childrens picture books, Christmas books of various kinds, poetry anthologies and a sizeable collection of victorian ghost stories. My husband thinks my book collection is getting out of hand. My dream job (apart from the one I have) would be to own a good used book store. Hunting for vintage ghost story books would be my favorite passtime if I had any free time.
Other hobbies inclue gardening (have you seen the Lasagna Gardening Books by Patricia Lanza?) needle work, I am a master tatter(a form of knotted lace made with a shuttle, ask your grandmother, she'll know.) I also like to cook, and would you be surprised to know that I have a large cookbook collection as well? I am the librarian for my church congregation (volunteer), and I publish a monthly newsletter in connection with that. I include poems, receipes, book reviews and any other interesting pieces I find. I am currently preparing to give a presentation at my school for a reading workshop on How to Promote Reading in the Home; and a presentation at a local university on How to Promote Reading in the Classroom. I am currently writting a grant for money to buy books for the school library, it is my first effort in that direction.
I have a husband who is retired, and a son who is a freshman in high school.
