Kirsti Wakelin created the above image as one of the "author photos" for our recently published picture book,
WHEN THEY ARE UP. She also did one for herself as illustrator and one for my wife, Maggee Spicer, as co-author. Kirsti took a traditional playing card image and melded our faces and various bits of
personal iconography with that it. In my case, note... the pencil (I'm a writer...), the books (self-explanatory...), the rainbow suspenders (which I always wear during my presentations...) and the crossword grids (I am addicted to cryptic crossword puzzles...)
