Extended Profile
Books become like friends, I get really fond of them while I am lost in their pages, I hate nearing the end of a book that I have really enjoyed. I experience a small sense of loss when the final word is read, but it's quickly cured by opening the pages
of the next potential literary masterpiece. Joining a local bookclub has been a wonderful experience as it got me reading all sort of books that I would never have usually considered. It has been really enriching, although there have been a few books that
took some perseverance. When I heard World Book Night book were giving away 'Half of a Yellow Sun' I knew I had to be involved. It has been a bookclub read it really opened up a whole history and geography of a place that I remembered hearing about in childhood.
When I was a very young child I remember being told off all the time for not finishing my food followed by the phrase " think of all those poor starving children in Biafra". I never really knew where or even what Biafra was and as I grew older the memory of
the word faded from my consciousness. Reading this book, answered everything, of course the word had been lost, the bid to become a country independant from Nigeria had failed after years of fighting and suffering by it's people. This book taught me so much
and I just knew I wanted to share that with as many people as possible. World Book Night gives me that opportunity....over a million books given away by people passionate about reading.
