The Shasta Public Libraries with branches in Anderson, Burney, and Redding, California are promoting this Bookcrossing as part of THE BIG READ SHASTA, which will run the entire month of October 2007. In addition to the many events throughout the month, we have released over 150 copies of the book "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee into the wild. We want to "make the world a library" and will be eagerly watching to see how far the books go.

The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment of the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest and is designed to encourage reading for pleasure and enlightenment. The Big Read provides citizens and communities across the nation with the opportunity to read and discuss a single book within their community. Nearly two hundred communities nationwide will participate in the Big Read in 2007.
